PROTEUS™ Ocean Group
The final frontier isn’t space—it’s the ocean. Proteus Ocean Group is making underwater living and research a reality.
In 2023, See.Spark.Go began working with Proteus Ocean Group, founded by Fabien Cousteau, aquanaut and grandson of Jacques Cousteau. Proteus Ocean Group is a for-profit social enterprise building a global smart ocean platform. The environment includes multiple subsea habitats, laboratories where researchers and others can live and work 24/7 underwater, in various jurisdictions, ocean monitoring systems, blue carbon management tools, a robust media business to amplify ocean storytelling and a venture division driving strategic investments to accelerate innovation. Proteus Ocean Group’s core project is building PROTEUS™, “The International Space Station of the Ocean.” Set to be stationed off the coast of Curaçao in 2028, PROTEUS™ is being built as the world’s most advanced, multi-purpose underwater habitat designed to drive innovation in the blue economy, amplify ocean storytelling and enable research to address pressing global issues. To tell the story of a structure that doesn’t yet exist, our team got creative by inviting a freelance travel and environment writer to personally dive with Fabien at the future site of PROTEUS™. In addition to this trip, we have generated a number of speaking engagements, thought-leadership opportunities and innovative ways to share the Proteus Ocean Group story in its early stages.
